![]() I had no hand in that, so again, as a viewer, you just sort of go, ‘Oh, he’s playing ? Wow, that’s nice.’ And I thought the cast was really well put together. Beware My Power arrives three months ahead of the actor’s performance in Black Adam, which co-stars Dwayne Johnson, Pierce Brosnan, Noah Centineo, Quintessa Swindell and Sarah Shahi. As Butch Lukic explained, Hodge hit a nice balance between making sure this version of John Stewart felt warm, but was also convincing when it was time for the character to get tough. and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. Green Lantern: Beware My Power is the latest voiceover gig for Aldis Hodge, with his other credits in this field including Happy Feet, A.T.O.M. But I think it’s generally his great attitude, plus the fact that he has insight and and inside and out a warm guy, and that’s what John Stewart is. ![]() I think it’s because of the warmness in his acting, and needed to pull the tough card out. During my conversation with Butch Lukic, I asked what special quality Hodge had that made him feel like he was the right choice to play John. It's becoming tiresome, and if this movie is any indication, it's past time for the DCU to deliver something new.Ahead of him starring as Hawkman, leader of the Justice Society of America, in Black Adam, DC fans will hear Aldis Hodge as John Stewart in Green Lantern: Beware My Power, which premieres tomorrow, July 22, at San Diego Comic-Con at 6:30 pm PT in Ballroom 20. However, this aspect is overshadowed by the fact that this is just another origin story - and it's starting to feel like the writers and studio are unable or unwilling to come up with anything besides either origin stories or alternate universes where familiar characters are in unfamiliar roles (Clark Kent as an Orlando Magic power forward instead of a newspaperman, Bruce Wayne as a Parisian during the French Revolution, etc.). ![]() In terms of positives, this movie is part of a larger trend toward greater diversity in superheroes. After that, much of the story is inaccessible if you're not a DCU superfan, and even then, the balance between lengthy backstory monologues and superhero/supervillain battles royale is out of whack, and by the time we get to the "plot twist," it shouldn't surprise anyone, although some superfans are likely to get miffed. Green Lantern: Beware My Power starts off simple enough: A former soldier has reluctantly become the newest member of the Green Lantern Corps. Here's yet another origin story that's overwhelming in its needless complexity. Stewart and Green Arrow go to Oa, where they confront and then work with Hawkgirl, as they find themselves in the middle of a confusing galactic war filled with rogue technology and shifting alliances. As circumstances lead to Stewart keeping the ring on his finger (for now), he learns that Jordan is believed to be dead, and his death has something to do with battles taking place on Oa. Upon arrival, Stewart learns that the ring belonged to Hal Jordan, and Stewart meets Green Arrow ( Jimmi Simpson), Martian Manhunter ( Ike Amadi), and Vixen. Not wanting to wear this ring or to live up to the responsibilities of being the newest member of the Green Lantern Corps, Stewart wants the ring gone, but the only way to do that is to be taken to the Justice League Watchtower. One night, while returning from the store, a spaceship crashes on his street, and when he goes to investigate, he finds what appears to be a dying alien and a mysterious ring that floats until it insinuates itself on Stewart's finger. In GREEN LANTERN: BEWARE MY POWER, John Stewart ( Aldis Hodge) is a former Marine struggling with PTSD. On the positive side, the lead character and latest version of Green Lantern is a Black man in a genre that has historically had heroes who were almost entirely White. Fighting with lasers, spaceships that crash and explode as superheroes and villains do battle. Next, we see the lead character save an unhoused man with a bottle of booze from getting burned alive by two street toughs who spray the man with lighter fluid as they light a match - fighting with punches, kicks, broken bottle.
